The English Mastiff is one of the largest breeds of dogs and has a powerful build. The Mastiff has a short coat that is generally a fawn color with black around it’s muzzle, ears, eyes, and nose. Mastiffs can exceed 200 pounds at maturity as well. The English Mastiff was originally bred to be a guard dog and to this day it remains in the top five guard dogs in the world.

English Mastiffs do well indoors, which only increases its appeal because you won’t have a large dog running through your house leaving chaos in its wake. As long as it has adequate exercise to prevent it from becoming lazy, a trait of the breed, and help it to remain in peak physical condition. Even a small yard where the children and dog can play together will be sufficient. With the average lifespan between seven and thirteen years, the English Mastiff can be a great family pet that will be around through your children’s childhood.
This is a great breed for anyone to own, from a single person to a large family. Think hard the next time you come across English Mastiff puppies for sale and consider buying one. Though you may not have originally considered owning a large breed of dog, the benefits of owning an English Mastiff are far greater than any problems size might cause. Combined with their calm natures and great ability to live indoors, the English Mastiff makes for a great pet.
